Gen-I Ambassador Participates in North Dakota Oral Health Convening

On August 1, Darius Spark, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, participated in the Tribal Nations North Dakota Oral Health Summit in Bismarck, ND where he shared his personal experiences with lack of access to dental care.

Photo of Generation Indigenous Ambassador Darius SparkDuring his remarks, Darius talked about growing up and having to endure tooth pain because there was no accessible dentist for him and his family. He described having to put topical anesthetic on his teeth and gums to withstand the pain until his tooth eventually died. Darius took the opportunity to tell his personal story and advocate for improved dental care access for his Native peers, as well as many others in the United States who go without care.

CNAY partners like the National Indian Health Board and Northwest Area Indian Health Board also participated in the summit.
