In mid-March, CNAY and 2015 Champion for Change, Rory Taylor, attended and participated in the Citizen University conference in Seattle. The conference, which was themed “WHO IS US?” focused on race, identity, and what it means to be American now. The conference was attended by hundreds of activists and stakeholders to gain new skills, deepen networks, and “remake the narrative of America.”
On the opening evening, Rory Taylor participated in a panel along with Alicia Garza, founder of #BlackLivesMatter, Maria Hinojosa, journalist and executive producer of Latino USA on NPR; and Jim Wallis, revered and author of “America’s Original Sin.” Eric Liu moderated the discussion, during which Rory talked about his indigenous identity and the growing movements among Native youth in North America. Rory did a remarkable job on the panel and represented his tribe, his fellow Native youth, and CNAY well!
