On January 29, CNAY hosted a convening in Washington, DC with national stakeholders to highlight oral health issues in Indian Country and a tribally-driven solution. The convening featured presentations from Community Catalyst and the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board on access to dental care challenges and recent efforts to expand dental care access via Dental Health Aide Therapists (DHATs) in the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community and in Oregon.
Representatives from federal agencies, tribal organizations and other other invested stakeholders participated in the convening, where they engaged in dialogue regarding DHATs and their potential to address oral health issues in Indian Country, as well as in the general population. The convening was a success and CNAY will continue to lift up Native youth voices regarding their oral health priorities going forward. To read more about CNAY’s oral health efforts, read here.
