On January 14, CNAY staff joined other advocates for Indian Country at the 2016 State of Indian Nations hosted by the National Congress of American Indians. NCAI President Brian Cladoosby provided the address two days after President Obama’s State of the Union speech to promote self-determination and identify priorities for NCAI in the upcoming year. President Cladoosby discussed four issue areas of focus during the address — education and health and wellness; economic equality; climate change; and community security.
Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) gave the congressional response and highlighted the need to improve Bureau of Indian Education schools, and encouraged members of Congress to accept President Cladoosby’s invitation to visit Indian Country. Read more about the 2016 State of Indian Nations here.
