For Native American Heritage Month, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation is recognizing #NativeHeroes in oral health – people and organizations working to eliminate barriers to obtaining care or working to ensure that all tribal communities have timely access to quality dental care.
As part of the campaign, WKKF has recognized three CNAY-connected Native American youth for their efforts and advocacy related to expanding access to dental care in Indian Country. Each of the youth have authored an op-ed, letter or article highlighting oral health issues experienced by Native youth and the successful tribal solution – Dental Health Aide Therapists – that was implemented in Alaska.
We’re proud of these youth for using their voice to lift up oral health issues! You can read their articles below.
- Littlebear Sanchez’s op-ed in the Albuquerque Journal.
- Joaquin Gallegos’ letters in the New York Times and the Washington Post.
- Hamilton Seymour’s letter in the Bellingham Herald.
