On January 16, CNAY hosted our 16th Policy and Resource Roundtable with federal agencies, national tribal organizations, and Native youth on President Obama’s Generation Indigenous initiative. The meeting, which had 57 attendees including 15 Native youth, featured presentations from Jodi Gillette, Senior Advisor to the President for Native American Affairs; Dr. Yvette Roubideaux, Acting Director of the Indian Health Service; Ann Marie Bledsoe Downes Deputy Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs at the US Department of the Interior; Leslie Wheelock, Director of Tribal Relations at the US Department of Agriculture; and William Mendoza, Executive Director of the White House Initiative on American Indian/Alaska Native Education at the US Department of Education.
