The National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as full-time Executive Director based in its Washington, DC headquarters.
Job Description: The Executive Director is responsible for all business operations, including management of NAIHC assets, hiring, training, promotion, discipline and termination of employees; and for establishing and maintaining the business organization and structure to efficiently conduct the management functions of NAIHC. The Executive Director serves as the lead agent, representative and spokesperson on behalf of the organization with local, tribal, state, national and international public and private leaders and representatives. The Executive Director plans for and administers a program providing service in accordance with NAIHC’s stated mission and purpose, and in such a manner that optimum results are achieved in relation to the resources of the agency. Program operations are under the general direction of the NAIHC Board of Directors.
Qualifications: Graduate degree preferred with 3 years of experience in management, personnel supervision, and advocacy, or a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of progressive experience in upper management and advocacy. Must have an excellent working knowledge of Indian housing programs/operations and more specifically an excellent working knowledge of NAHASDA statutory/regulatory requirements. Extensive background working in or with tribal governments and/or programs. Excellent writing and oral communication with extensive public speaking ability. Experience and ability to establish and maintain excellent relations with Congress, the Administration and national/regional tribal organizations. Experience in non-profit management and audit requirements, particularly those related to 501(c)(3) government contracting and support. Must be able to prepare detailed reports and general business correspondence. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Access, and other software applications.
Provide examples of the capacity to operate independently toward pre-established goals.
Salary: Salary level depends on experience. NAIHC offers an excellent benefit package and modest relocation expenses.
